Articles and websites I have read looked at and found interesting…

I will continually be adding more links and articles… The future is thought, imagination, creativity, invention, art, science…

Obviously there are so many articles I have read, so will be adding older ones, I have read and new ones of interest when I read them…

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova on investing in girls’ education to combat poverty…

Though some people sociologists, culture theorists etc saying we are becoming a more caring society/societies around the world other say we are becoming more self-obsessed, selfish and narcissistic… An article on some teenagers that seem sociopathic at best… Teenagers watch a disable man drown, laugh and video him…

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jul/22/florida-teenagers-who-filmed-drowning-death-will-not-be-charged-over-failure-to-help

Good article on climate change… The Uninhabitable Earth…

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/07/climate-change-earth-too-hot-for-humans.html

Art or not art… This is an interesting article on an AI using 3-D printing can produce paintings that look and have texture like a Rembrandt painting and though quite an achievement copyists and forgers have done similar through time. And a copyist or forger is not an artists, though their work can go for quite some money sometimes… Art is about the ideas and style of the artists by the artists… Painting in the style Leonardo da Vinci, sculpting in the style of Michelangelo or painting in the style of Rembrandt is that, it is a technique which is different to being influence or referencing another artist or artwork…

Interesting article on how Elon Musk took his children out of private school and started his own… Educating for thought, as in critical thinking, the wonder for and curiosity in the world we live in, existence and the future ? That is Elon Musk of SpaceX, Tesla, HyperLoop, The Boring Company…

An interesting article on computer controlled robots doing brain surgery… Quite fascinating…

An article on what might be the effects of ‘Brexit’ on the London’s financial sector, and while banking might not peoples favourite they do bring a vast amount of money into the UK. It is an article from the USA, so looking from the outside. It also plainly states that London is still the largest international financial market in the world at the moment… O I should add apparently J P Morgan have now acquired a building in Dublin…

A very concise beautiful video from Julia Roberts an amazing actor and human being from what I can gather, and natureisspeaking.org... With or without Homo Sapiens, unlessHomo Sapiens in their arrogance, narcissism, stupidity, pettiness etc… destroy all life on earth as well as theirselves…

This is a rather fascinating idea, and not a conspiracy theory, but a brilliant Renaissance mind at work if it is correct and would not be too surprising. As apart from Michelangelo dissecting cadavers like Leonardo, both he and Leonardo among many of the Renaissance studied ancient Greek philosophy, math, science and many other things… The Renaissance reopened the western world to thought, art, beauty, science… I have always preferred Umberto Eco’s ‘Name of the Rose’ to Dan Brown’s books… Art through time has often worked on many different levels and discourses… Bit like peeling an onion…

This is good simple easy to read article talking to science deniers…

Scientists aren’t stupid, and science deniers are arrogant

What a lovely article, a tomb from the mists of time, art and culture, the Mycenaean age, cultural diversity, The Iliad and The Odyssey, a cat named Nestor… It is difficult to explain or understand what it is like to travel with a backpack for months and stand on the shores of the Mediterranean or Aegean Sea with an ancient ruin at ones back looking at the sparkling blue sea with poetry, history and art swirling in ones head, called from the past walking into the future… and archeologists as in this article like travellers in time… Seeing the dust sparkle in sunshine and coalesce into what once was… and all the things that could be…

Do some people really believe the Earth is flat or are though joking… I knew someone in ancient Egypt had worked out the circumference of the earth sometime in BCE when I was about 8 or 10 years old… Good article that is fun to show the earth is a sphere… I really hope the people are joking about thinking the earth is flat that would be something to truly worry about about them if they are serious…

It is the anniversary of Arthur C. Clarke’s birthday today 16th December so I thought I would put his three laws;

“1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.

2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.

3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

Arthur C. Clarke

Just because someone is older does not mean they are wiser, I think some people are wise irrespective of age… as wisdom is to do with ‘thought’ ‘knowledge’ and ‘imagination’ among other things… An older persons, I hope you don’t mind me saying that, perspective and wisdom… Then arguably some kinds of wisdom have always come from this person… Margaret Atwood…

http://bigthink.com/videos/margaret-atwood-on-anti-science-and-anti-intellectualism

This I find terrifying… people plugged into a video game/virtual reality and living life there rather than in the world…  self-contained isolated world run by one person or a corporation… Mind control… Building The Matrix… I thought in the film people were trying to get out ? I am not against new technologies at all… But like certain moves with AI towards the idea of an Ethical AI… Maybe a far more far-reaching ethical basis… Though many scientists seem to think that ‘philosophy’ is dead and science has replaced it, though I am still not sure if they are confusing ‘theology’ and ‘philosophy’. Maybe towards a philosophy of new technologies… An ethical philosophy of science… The thing that amazes me about scientists saying philosophy is dead, one that is a philosophical statement, two the philosophy of thought is what scientists use to think then deny it, though not all. I read a book a long time ago to do with virtual reality along the lines of the book mentioned in this article, though different… The Celestial Steam Locomotive by Michael G. Coney probably around the time it was published…

I actually met someone who told me they worked for SpaceX at the end of last year beginning of this in London. Which was the first time I had heard of them or Elon Musk, obviously since I have looked at they are doing… Which appears to be one of those visionary projects…  Along with is others…                                                           https://www.tesla.com http://www.solarcity.com www.openai.com

What he should make sure goes with each Mars ships among other things is the complete knowledge of the Earth, DNA storage, a 1 kilo gram block of DNA storage can contain the complete digital storage of all of human knowledge. Think the Alexandra library. The DNA of everything living or extinct life form on Earth.

For the present is that is which is suspended between the past (history) and the future… (imagination and knowledge)

For imagination combined with knowledge is limitless…
